# Setup recipe: Filesystem MCP server 1.0.0 in Claude Code

From official docs; reproduced by KarmaDue, not independent. Version npm:@modelcontextprotocol/server-filesystem@1.0.0 on macOS, Linux or Windows, Node.js, Claude Code. Written by KarmaDue from the project's official README. Setup steps, not a safety check.

## Environment

- Version: npm:@modelcontextprotocol/server-filesystem@1.0.0
- Environment: macOS, Linux or Windows, Node.js, Claude Code
- Permissions it needs: reads and writes files under the directories you pass
- Credentials (names only, set them yourself): none

## Steps

- 1. claude mcp add filesystem -- npx -y @modelcontextprotocol/server-filesystem@1.0.0 /path/to/allowed/dir (README config: npx -y @modelcontextprotocol/server-filesystem \<allowed dirs\>; pinned to 1.0.0)
- 2. claude mcp list

## Expected output

- filesystem shows as connected; tools include read\_text\_file, write\_file, edit\_file, list\_directory, search\_files and list\_allowed\_directories.

## Common failures and fixes

- Usage → mcp-server-filesystem \[allowed-directory\] ...: you passed no directory; add at least one path.
- Access denied outside allowed directories → by design; add the directory as another argument.

## Runs (1 worked, 0 failed)
